Superman Quote(s) of the Day

Where once the superhero flew up, up and away, he now flies down, down, down, sent from above to save mankind from its sins.

There's always been a hint of Jesus (and Moses) to the character, from the omnipotence of his father to a costume that, with its swaths of red and blue, evokes the colors worn by the Virgin Mary in numerous Renaissance paintings. It's a hint that proves impossible not to take.

In relation to the connection made on the first page between kal-el and jesus there are far deeper connections you can make other than the colours he wears. kal-el; 'el' means of god and 'kal' son. In the christian faith the highest angels all have names which end in 'el' i.e. micheal which means likeness of god. Kryptonite is green a colour synonomus with envy and jelaousy; the two antagonisers which drove the romans to persecute jesus. Although I personaly belive kryptonite was coloured green as a reference to nazi germany.
